Meet Brandy! Our very first Yogi!

We are so excited to announce another blogger to the team, actually a Vlogger. Brandy Harrison is a Chicago native who grew up in an urban area surrounded by violence and crime. As a teenager she found her calling as a teacher, teaching Niles West High School feeder basketball teams for seven years. She moved on to study physical education in college. Brandy Harrison began her yogic path in 2007, and has since trained in many forms of Yoga and it shows in her diverse teaching style. For several years now, she has been a certified yoga instructor working at multiple studios in the Chicago land area. She has also volunteered teaching yoga to high risk youth on the south and west side of Chicago, and one of the founders of Yoga Gardens.

As mention above, Brandy Harrison is one of the founders of Yoga Gardens and she believes everyone should be able to find peace no matter where they are or what their current situation may be. Yoga Gardens is a women founded not-for -profit organization which began in Chicago. Their goal is to aid and uplift children and young adults of impoverished Chicago neighborhoods. Through yoga, meditation and healthier food options we relieve stress and disease in areas where these difficulties are most prevalent.

How does Yoga Garden give back to the community? They allocate vacant lots in developing residential areas, which often accumulate garbage, attract criminal activity, and ultimately become a burden on the residents. Yoga Gardens transforms each lot into a thriving yoga & gardening community space.

What can you expect to see from Brandy? Brandy will be sharing video blogs of some of the basic moves of yoga to some more complex tricks with step by step instructions!
